Literally, make-do-and-mend – but in a very cool and ‘modern’ way:
When was the last time you mended something, like sewed on a button or darned a holey sock? Unless you’re a reader of a certain age, you might never have performed such arcane tasks. When socks get holes in them, you throw them away, don’t you?
You don’t if you’re Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald, Australia’s “leading clothes-mending practitioner”. The title may be tongue-in-cheek, but the intent is real: Lewis-Fitzgerald is on a mission to make mending cool again. Her just-published book, Modern Mending, details fixes for all manner of wardrobe malfunctions – from missing buttons to heart-rending tears in your favourite top. It’s mending, but not how your grandparents might know it.
