Designing better EV charging hubs

If we are to make EV vehicles more attractive, then the infrastructure needs to be attractive too – and not just on a practical basis.

The industry publication Automotive World is saying that EV charging hubs demand a visionary architecture.

And last year, this blog ran a piece looking at how ‘the solarpunk movement is inspiring a new architectural approach…’ in areas such as designing better EV charging hubs.

Looking over the past year, there has been some further movement in better design.

There are some ideas from Pulse Energy, giving considerations and ideas for EV charging station design – very practical lists of what to think about, but not very inspiring.

So, perhaps in the true spirit of solarpunk, why not Build Your Own EV Charging Station: “Why waste time buying a crummy indoor charger off of Amazon when you can *build* your own charging station for fun and profit!”

Or, from the Cambridge Design Partnership, why not put together a Pop-up Solar EV Charging Hub

3ti Energy Hubs came to us with a unique challenge to realize the first pop-up mini solar car park – aimed at advancing the rollout of EV infrastructure by providing rapidly deployable destination charging in locations such as offices, retail outlets, and leisure facilities. They also wanted to address the obstacles to rollout presented by planning permission rules and the need for electric grid upgrades.
