Sidmouth Solarpunk: project ideas

The Solarpunk ethos is very much about looking to the future by using what techniques and technologies we already have:

Many of the ideas and themes can be found in earlier Sci Fi novels from the 60s and 70’s which look forward to a future where people, ecology and technology work in harmony… It is not doom laden like many of the current climate change protesters who decry technology whilst being big consumers of it, but instead looks for ways of keeping the best of all worlds. It faces the reality of what humans have inflicted on the earth but is optimistic that human ingenuity can and will prevail.

What is Solarpunk? – Sidmouth Solarpunk

Solarpunk is certainly about ‘technology’ – but also about ‘sustainability’, which basically means using the resources we already have at hand:

The underlying beliefs of Solarpunk are very much ‘mend and make-do’; prepare food from scratch; use local and seasonal food supplies; support your own community and try not to depend too much on the outside world; keep your area (the bit outside your house and any shared areas) clean, tidy and maintained; look after your environment and your neighbours both young and old.”

And one of the main points of this website is to show that Sidmouth has very many of these aspects either in play or potentially so. In which case, over the following weeks, these ‘Sidmouth Snippets’ will be focussing on what is and could be going on in the Sid Valley based on the above.
